Mmm cinnamon raisin toast. Nom nom nom.
|Saturday, August 30th, 2008|
And this wasn't no "left over" breakfast cake, neither. It was purpose-baked breakfast cake! (A yellow cake from a box with chocolate icing from a can.)
It's kinda funny. I introduced my (now) wife to breakfast cake. It was a tradition in my house. Mom figured we ate something and we weren't whining about it. There were four kids in the house: there were very few meals without copious whining. Plus, four kids. Breakfast cake didn't come around often.
But the first time I sprung breakfast cake on my (now) wife, she was all "Your mom wouldn't let you have cake for breakfast!" I don't know what her problem was, but I married her anyway. She also ate the cake for that long-ago breakfast. And she liked it. After she checked with Mom to make sure it was OK.
Now she's making cakes for breakfast especial.
She's come so far.

Chocolate-covered espresso beans. Tasty, but not exactly filling, or part of this nutritious breakfast.

Gosh, I sure do love breakfast. Best meal of the day. It's great for lunch and dinner, too.
Unfortunately I was in a rush this morning and didn't get a very good breakfast.
Just Uncle Toby's Plus cereal with rice milk and some corn thins with hommus and tomato.
My current favourite breakfast food it apple and cinnamon on toast.
Peel an apple and cut it into loads of tiny pieces.
Fry with some butter or oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon until soft.
Spread some butter on toast and sprinkle some cinnamon on to it.
Put the apple on the the toast.
And chuck a bit of cinnamon on top of that, too.

Breakfast Pie, bay-bee!
Pumpkin at that. With whipped cream. Mmmm-mm!

Late in the day, but still valid
If you take half a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and add half a bowl of Peanut Butter Crunch, it's better than Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs. But more work.

Is this thing on?
Today I had a pair of Toaster Strudels and a glass of apple juice. Raspberry
Yeah, yeah, I know... they are nothin' but glorified Pop Tarts. But here's the thing- they weren't burnt
! (A moral victory.)
When we moved into the house it had a "Space Saving" toaster screwed onto the bottom of the cabinets. (Not all of them, just one. Although a whole rank of Space Saving toasters all along the bottom of all your cabinets would be cool. You be King of Space Saved Toast.) And as it happened, our regular toaster crapped out right before we moved.
The downside was the thermostat on the toaster was... random. Sometimes the toast would be too light, other times it would be burnt. Never "just right". Not unless you hovered around the toaster and turned your toast halfway through. Don't get me started on bagels. And Toaster Strudels, that start out frozen? You might as well just cook real strudel from a recipe. It'd be less involved.
So, after THREE YEARS we got a new, working toaster. Actually a "toaster oven". And my Raspberry Toaster Strudel came out perfect

Breakfast Cereal for Dinner
dry, right out of the box
in a bowl with milk
dry, but with a glass of mile on the side
Favorite breakfast cereals (for breakfast, dinner, snacks)
(of course that last one should be "milk.")

Since I had the time this morning, I fixed myself a nice breakfast of a ham and cheese omelette, two pieces of whole grain toast, and coffee.
It was nice to be able to do that, and have no looming appointments or anything.
I'd almost forgotten what a lazy Saturday morning was like.

POP TARTS! Ok, this probably isn't a big deal for a lot of people, but it is for us since we eat a pretty healthy diet that doesn't include packaged food. Sad thing is, I actually liked them. A lot. Current Mood: cheerful

christmas (eve) dinner
I just had bacon and eggs, (wheat) toast, and (fresh) (black with cream) coffee. Yum.
I had an amazingly large breakfast the other day. I have actually been eating more breakfast related foods now that I'm on winter vacation, or Christmas break, or winter holiday, what have you.
Oh, and I guess I kinda moderate this community? yeah. happy holidays.
p.s. what do you guys think about biscuits and gravy? a good breakfast food or too....Southern?

Breakfast, what it isn't supposed to be...
I had a fruit/veggie bar plus one piece of organic sourdough with mustard and havarti cheese. Pretty good, but not satisfying. I hate having a rushed breakfast, I like to sit down and eat and relax.
Oh well. There's always tomorrow. Current Mood: content

I see we've got a few new members here, which is great, and I'm glad to see some posts here and there. If anyone would like to take over this community, please let me know. I haven't been doing much with it anyway, but I just had twins and so now have no time at all to pay attention to it. It's a fun little community and I'd hate to see it die out, so if you think you'd like to become the maintainer, let me know and I'll transfer it over.
ETA: Oh, and just to keep things in the spirit of the community, I had instant oatmeal this morning, which is what I've been having for most of the past two weeks; helps boost yer milk production. Moo. Current Mood: tired

Well, I guess I should tell you guys THIS then...
I had one piece of Finnish Wholewheat toast with Becel margerine and Smuckers peach jam on it. My boyfriend had 2 pieces of said toast with pulled pork and dijon mustard on it. I feel cheated! Current Mood: annoyed

It was sort of a fluke...
Um, is it ok if I had organic wildberry yogurt with Grapenuts for breakfast? Current Mood: uncomfortable

this is going to sound retarded, but...
my grandparents are freaks, and feel the need to throw away all traces of original packaging for food products.
all i wanted this morning was to make a nice bowl of grits, but all i have is a chinese soup container filled with grits and noooo instuctions.
so i was wondering if any of you had a container of quick grits in your kitchen, and if you could leave the basic recipe as a comment.

mmm....brehfast...(my first post)
I found this community through my interest in hasbrowns, an essential breakfast food if I must say so.
Unfortunately, I must also note that I have to start avoiding bacon and sausage because of my high cholesterol. (sigh)
but, um, I've been eating frosted mini-wheats everyday this week. Today, I finished the package. In my honest opinion, I truly LOVE the last portion of cereal; when it's all smooshed and mashed and more crumb-like than anything. It was orgasmic.
Yesterday, for lunch, I went to I-HOP with a friend. I had the steak and eggs....and it came with hasbrowns AND pancakes. I felt like a glutton afterward, but I also felt good and happy, having had 4 different syrups on my pancakes. Yum.
Anyways, I look forward to reading about the breakfasts we all enjoy, or any interesting breakfast issues that have arisen. Cheers. Current Mood: excited
